Mothers Union

The M.U had it's beginnings in 1876 when vicar's wife Mary Sumner set up a support group for mothers' who were struggling to bring up their children. From those small beginnings the M.U. has grown into a world-wide women-led Christian movement with 4 million members in 84 countries.

Locally the M.U. has been part of church life for many years getting involved in such concerns as Womens Aid/Domestic Abuse, Modern Day Slavery and much, much more.

In about 2015 Gainsborough M.U became a Fellowship Group, meeting for coffee, chat and an update on the current concerns and projects. We usually meet in St. Georges Church but occasionally we gather (with advance notice) at the Old Hall cafe. Our meetings are bi-monthly on the third Thursday of the month at 10.30am, and our next and final get together for 2022, will be at St. Georges on 17th November with a communion service followed by a buffet lunch.

One important point - M.U. membership isn't just for mothers or even women, it is for everybody, male or female whether single, married or divorced. Why not come along as a visitor and see what we're all about, we look forward to welcoming you.
